Does ChatGPT recommend Australian B2B software? What 420 answers say
We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Mode the questions Australian buyers type, for 7 B2B software companies selling into Australia, three times each on separate days. Here is how often the company was named, who was named instead, and which pages the assistants read.

Across 420 answers to buyer questions about Australian B2B software, the company we measured was named 240 times (57%). The spread between companies was wide: from 11 of 60 to 49 of 60. The companies named instead were the category leaders: Procore (96), PandaDoc (59), Proposify (58), Cliniko (49), Tanda (47), Deputy (46), Nookal (46), Lumary (46). And the pages the assistants read before answering were, above all, the Australia editions of the software directories (Capterra Australia, Software Advice Australia, GetApp Australia, SourceForge, G2) and the vendors’ own pricing and feature pages.
By assistant
| Assistant | Named / answers | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 58 / 105 | 55% |
| Claude | 63 / 105 | 60% |
| Perplexity | 54 / 105 | 51% |
| Google AI Mode | 65 / 105 | 62% |
Google’s AI Mode named the Australian company most often and Perplexity least; the gap is the pages each reads. Perplexity leans on the Australian directory pages, where a missing or thin listing costs the most; Google reads Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn, where Australian companies are discussed more than they are listed.
By company (categories, not names)
Each company’s own figures, with its rivals named, are in its own report and never on this page. The categories show the range.
| Software category | Named / 60 answers |
|---|---|
| Rostering | 38 / 60 |
| Construction procurement | 11 / 60 |
| Warehouse management | 44 / 60 |
| Allied health practice management | 36 / 60 |
| Capital project controls | 21 / 60 |
| NDIS / care management | 41 / 60 |
| Proposal software | 49 / 60 |
What the assistants read for Australian buyer questions
The most-cited sites across all 4,370 citations. The pattern is the practical finding: when the question names the country, the assistants reach for the country edition of the directory, and for the leaders’ own pages.

What to do with it
- Be on the Australia directory pages. Capterra Australia, Software Advice Australia, GetApp Australia, SourceForge, G2 with the category, country and pricing filled in. These were cited more than any vendor’s own site.
- Publish one page per buyer question, with “Australia” in it. The assistants answer the question as asked; a page that answers it in its first paragraph, with the local specifics, is what they cite.
- Measure on three separate days before concluding anything. The set of companies named changes between days about half the time (the figures).
- If a competitor is named where you are not, the four causes and fixes, in order: my competitors show up in ChatGPT but we don’t.
